UAE Students Discuss the U.S. Presidential Elections

October 29, 2008 – Throughout October, officers from the U.S. Consulate General in Dubai and the U.S. Embassy in Abu Dhabi visited schools throughout the United Arab Emirates to discuss the upcoming U.S. Presidential elections.  Using a presentation developed in conjunction with the U.S. National Archives, the discussions offered a unique perspective on the U.S. electoral process by drawing parallels between the 2008 Presidential election and the political cartoons of Clifford Berryman.  The presentation was based on the 2008 National Archives exhibit, Running for Office: The Candidates, Campaigns, and Cartoons of Clifford K. Berryman.

Participants received materials in Arabic and English that provided details on the candidates, campaign process, and the Electoral College.  Each school also received a copy of the catalogue from the U.S. National Archives Running for Office exhibit for the school library.
