September 2, 2008 – Following a live discussion last week from the Democratic National Convention, the U.S. Mission to the United Arab Emirates sponsored an Iftar and conversation with Mr. Steven Duffield, the Executive Director of the Republican Platform Committee, who spoke live from the floor of the Republican National Convention in Minnesota. Following an Iftar to celebrate the second day of Ramadan, audience members questioned Mr. Duffield on the Republican Party’s views on U.S. dependence on foreign oil, U.S. – Middle East exchange programs, abortion, and how oil and gasoline prices are impacting the U.S. presidential elections. Participants also met with U.S. Chargé d’Affaires a.i. Martin Quinn, Consul General Paul Sutphin, Dubai School of Government Dean Dr. Tarik Yousef, and Executive Director of the Dubai Press Club, Maryam bin Fahad .
